Stepping out of our Comfort Zones

Glee camp is a great opportunity for students and teachers alike to step outside their comfort zones and develop new and exciting skills. Today was no  exception.  For the first time this week we took a step away from singing and dancing and asked two students to act out a scene at the beginning of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful.”

Students Embrace the Spirit of Giving

Written by Stacey Wiseman on .

Four Grade 5 students from Cochrane Public School organized a Food Drive which has taken place over the past few weeks at the school. Students Sarah Wiseman and McKinley Porter approached the Vice Principal, Danielle Delaurier, asking if they could organize the food drive to help the community this Christmas.  With the help of a couple of classmates; Reanny Chapleau and Ariana Politis, the four girls spent many after school hours making posters, collecting boxes and creating incentives to get these food items in.  Each class was given a goal of 3 items per child.  If this goal was met, the class name would be entered into a draw for a special prize.  Nearly every class reached and surpassed the goal.

These young philantropists made announcements at the school every other day to keep the energy flowing and it wasn't long before those boxes were overflowing with food. The overflowing boxes were gathered in the front foyer of the school on Friday December 14th.  The box count is up to 22, plus 7 grocery bags full. That is an estimated 2000 items of food to be donated to the food bank.

The food bank, as a thank you, has donated a bus  to take the entire 5th grade class to the food bank on Tuesday to deliver the boxes.  While they are there, they will be given a tour of the food bank and shown how it operates.

Blackburn Fund-Raiser Game

Written by Scott Ulvstal on .

The Cochrane Rush game last Thursday doubled as a fundraiser for Bob Blackburn. Once again, the people of Cochrane were generous in their support.

Blackburn is currently suffering a relapse of Multiple Myeloma and must make frequent trips to Sudbury for treatment. His most recent treatment was a stem cell treatment two weeks ago. Blackburn is now back home recuperating.
