It is an unfortunate reality that to be seriously ill in Northern Ontario is to face the additional stress of long distance travel for medical treatment. To help cover the costs of travel, lodging, drugs and treatments; the patient and their families must often deal with a labyrinthine process of travel grants, insurance coverage, bank loans or resort to borrowing from friends and family.
Many also hold fundraisers to help supplement the substantial costs. Since starting C-TownWeb I have covered many of these dinners/fundraisers and have spoken with the ill recipients of the fundraiser.
Sadly, the story I am told is often a familiar one; money is often required to make the trip in the first place. Recovering money 2-3 weeks after the trip doesn't help make the trip in the first place. In addition to the cost, the discomfort of long travel can be rough on those whom are ill. With the cancellation of the Northlander, comfortable options are further reduced.
I am proud to introduce C-Town Outbound. Outbound will assist people that must travel for treatment quickly and comfortably. By forging a relationship with Hope Air, travel will be one less stress to worry about. A percentage of each purchase of a C-TownWeb good or service will be donated to Hope Air for the express purpose of assisting Northern patients.
From the website: Hope Air is the only registered, national charity that provides free flights to people who cannot afford the cost of an airline ticket to get to medical expertise or specialized medical technologies that usually exist only in larger urban centres.
