Written by Steph Beaudoin on .

Gold-Rush-Hockey  The Cochrane Rush are coming off a solid week of hockey having played two strong games against the Schumacher Cubs in another home and away series.  On the 27th the Rush faced off against the Iroquois Falls Stingers.

The first game of the double header was played at home last Thursday night (22nd) in which the Rush suffered a 4 to 2 loss to the visiting team who scored its fourth goal into an empty net with two seconds remaining on the clock.  The coaching staff felt that despite the loss, it was one of the team’s most complete games of the season.  The players were disappointed with the home loss, however only the positives were discussed in the room following the loss.

In attendance this year were 5 Atom Teams and 14 PeeWee Teams from Hearst, Mattice, Kapuskasing, Moosonee, Iroquois Falls, Schumacher, Timmins and three teams from Cochrane.  Cochrane teams included Allan’s Home Hardware and Amis Contruction Atoms along with Subway in the PeeWee division.

It was an energy packed weekend from start to finish with many fans coming out to cheer on our own Cochrane Allan’s Home Hardware in the Championship Finals vs Mattice Mighty Moose in the Atom division.  Mattice came out on top and took home the win, with Cochrane taking the silver.

In the PeeWee division Hearst entered the championship vs Moosonee.  In the end, Moosonee rode the train back home Monday morning with the gold.

Thanks to Al, Angel and Ray for all of their great work! Also special thanks to the student volunteers for all of their help and to the parents who stepped in and helped in the chaos of the prize distribution! Finally thanks to the many community partners we had that provided sponsorship! We have an amazing community!
